Silver is resistant to corrosion which helps to extend the life of the plated item. Silver forms an anti-seizing and anti-galling coating over the metal part allowing it to move more freely. Promotes the efficient flow of electricity which can affect the device's functionality.

Steel fasteners can be electroplated with zinc for improved corrosion resistance but they will rust if the coating is destroyed or exposed to a marine environment. The fasteners have a shiny silver (clear) or golden (yellow zinc) appearance.
